My name is Katelyn Crane. I live in North Wales, PA, a suburb forty minutes north of Philadelphia. I have a large extended family and love to get together with all of them at parties or be with some of the cousins just hanging out. Though I love all things Philadelphia: Wawa, the cheesesteaks, the accent, the Jersey Shore, the sports teams, etc; I chose to go to college in Pittsburgh.
I am a (soon to be) senior Marketing student at the University of Pittsburgh. I’ve spent my past three years involved in a large variety of activities at Pitt. I am a member of Sports Business Association, a club that allows students to get together with professionals in the sports world to learn about the industry and gain insights into the day to day work life. I’ve participated in numerous PittServes events in which students work together to give back to the Pittsburgh community. My friends and I play intramural volleyball, which is a great way to stay active while also staying lowkey and having fun. I love to attend the Pitt sporting events and anything else that might be happening on campus.
I’ve grown up playing all different types of sports and am a huge fan of most. If there is some type of game on, you can bet that I’ll be watching it. I always find myself getting wrapped up in some sport that I never would actively seek out to watch, but just happened to be on the TV as I was passing by. My ultimate career goal is to be successful in the business field of the sports industry. I have always loved sports and find them to be something with which I can easily work. Those who work in a sports environment know the true value of a team, something I consider of great importance. I hope to have a job where I am happy with the people I work with and the things that I am doing. I believe a key part of loving life is loving what you spend your days doing.
This summer I am taking what I hope is a great step for my future career. I am participating in the Global Business Institute: Sydney Sports Business. This program is centered on the industry of sports. We students are given the option to take two classes or take one class and intern with a professional sports team. I have chosen to take the Sports Marketing class and participate in the internship program. I will be working with the Sydney Blue Sox, a professional baseball team in the Australian Baseball League.
This six week program will give me a chance not only to actually work with a team and gain real life experience in a field I enjoy, but also to explore a brand new city across the globe. This is an opportunity of a lifetime that I am so lucky to have the chance to be a part of. I can’t wait to learn all about the Australian way of life and hopefully form some lasting friendships along the way!!!
