Week 1 Reflection

Today started with a slow morning. We ate breakfast around 9:15 and then had an easy start to the day. We had free time until around 1:45pm and then got started with our day. We spent the afternoon at Croke Park watching a Gaelic Football match. Dublin vs. Roscommon.

It was awesome! Dublin won 36-20 (I think!) and the crowd was a sea of baby blue supporters. It was amazing to have seen the stadium from behind the scenes earlier in the week and then experience a match and the energy of the crowd first hand.

Looking back on this past week has been incredible. I feel like I have seen so much of Dublin already and this trip is only half done. My favorite site visit was definitely Davy. Susan was beyond inspiring and it was a true privilege to hear her speak. I also really enjoyed Croke Park. It gave me a whole new perspective on sports beyond the borders of the United States.

Culturally, I have enjoyed so many things. For starters, the people here in Ireland are incredible. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming to foreigners which is a huge change from other places around the world. The food here is also wonderful. Meals are a great bonding experience. Besides being absolutely delicious, I really think shared dinners, live music, and the general ambiance of restaurants has brought me closer to my classmates.

Lastly, the city of Dublin itself has been my absolute favorite thing. Walking around, exploring, and seeing all that this wonderful city has to offer has been so enjoyable. The atmosphere here is great and I like that it is a small town feel in a major European city. I truly could not have asked for a better first week in Dublin and I am so grateful to have another!
