Goodbye Prague

I believe I am a little late on this post, traveling and returning home after such a long absence can really make time move in strange ways. But nonetheless I have some final reflection to do on my summer!

First and foremost, I must say that this has been an incredible experience, far too often I become complacent and start to sit back and let other forces decide my path in life for me, so taking the initiative to do a something with my life that was so different and so fulfilling has had more of an impact on myself than I initially imagined. On my final day of work my boss was praising me for traveling and working in a foreign environment and above all telling me how you have to take advantage of these opportunities when you’re younger and more flexible, before these other forces take too much of reign on your life. It feels good knowing that I have taken advantage of such an opportunity, and I know that since this surpassed my expectations, it will serve as a catalyst for future decisions in my life.

Working abroad, I believe, will advance my professional career significantly. Regardless of technical experience gained from the specific job, the fact that I did it will immediately distinguish me from other candidates in future applications. And as an aspiring entrepreneur, understanding that much further the intricacies of an office not just in the United States will serve to benefit me if I do decide to start my own company.

For me however, the greatest growth I think I have seen is personally. I went to Prague not knowing a single person there, uncertain but determined. I came out with an incredible group of friends and countless adventures, turning the most seamless day into one that cannot be forgotten again and again. I was forced to adapt, to be uncomfortable, and to grow. Also as someone whose always been interested in history, it was very exciting to see different European cities materialized in front of me rather than in text or image. The unfathomable history, culture, and humanity layered within the places I walked served to give me a much broader perspective and appreciation for the intricacies of humanity. For myself, European history has had the greatest effect on my life, It’s had the greatest influence over the birth and growth of the country I live in and where my ancestors hailed from. So seeing the continent to some extent, even if I never fully could understand every bit of history, was certainly significant and will continue to surface throughout the rest of my life in America.

All that said, there is noting more refreshing than being home. Seeing family and friends after such a long absence has been so nice, I know “nice” is such a simple word to use, but somehow it fits perfectly, it’s nice seeing those you’ve missed for so long. Aside from the expected things such as this and once again being completely familiar with the culture you preside in, I’m excited looking forward. I am excited to apply what I have gained from my experience in both school and work along with my social life as well.

I’d like to thank Pitt for bringing about this amazing opportunity which I am more than happy I took advantage of!
