My time here in Sydney has been so much fun so far. The amount of friends and people I have met truly have helped me transition to my new life here in Australia. Even though I have been having the most fun I have ever had, there certainly has been times where I have had some struggles.

One obstacle that I have had to overcome was my transition to my internship. The combination of taking classes during the week and then on certain days going to work after definitely took some getting used to. The first week I was still pretty confused of all the tasks I would do while working under my boss at Andiron Group. My supervisor and I realized that we had many things in common even before my arrival to Sydney when we talked over Skype. I understood that he was a very busy man and could use all the help he could get. When I was located at the RISQ office, I had some difficulty connecting with my other co-workers at first. This was primarily due to my limited hours in the office during the first few weeks and constant bouncing around to the multiple clients that Andiron has. However, I eventually got closer with the RISQ office as a whole when we won an award for being the best background screener at the HRM Reader’s Choice Awards for the second year in a row. We all celebrated together and got to know each other a little bit better afterwards.

Another component of my internship that I overcame was my limited exposure to blogs. One of the main tasks that I was responsible for was the weekly blog schedule and the posts that went out multiple days a week. I was very unfamiliar with this topic of CV and overall what the company would like to share to its clients. After coming up with some blog posts that weren’t necessarily relevant to the company and the adjustment from my supervisor, I eventually adjusted to what the company wanted. At first I was concerned of how writing these blog posts were going to benefit me in my future endeavors and let my supervisor know I had concerns. I came to realize that every business nowadays has some sort of blog and the material that I read about would be very beneficial to my overall knowledge of business.
