Hello! My name is Olivia Winters. I am originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, but I relocated to Pittsburgh for school because I love the culture and opportunities in the city. I am currently a sophomore studying marketing and supply chain management at the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration. I am a graduate of the Pitt Business Leaders Engaging and Developing Strengths program. In addition to my studies at Pitt, I am a student worker at the Hillman Library on campus. I am also involved with several student organizations, such as Pitt Program Council, through which I help run all types of on-campus events. When I have some spare time, I love to spend it with friends and family. I enjoy listening to different types of music and doing something creative. One of my biggest passions is traveling. Through Pitt Business, I was afforded the incredible opportunity to study abroad for two weeks in Germany on the Plus 3 program this past May. This experience allowed me to learn in-depth about marketing and supply chain management with a behind the scenes view of the automobile industry.
I am very excited to be studying marketing and supply chain management with the hope to eventually work in the fields. I have been working since the day I was old enough to find a place that would hire me. My first job was as a camp counselor when I was about 14 years old. When I was 15, I began working as a cashier at a local pharmacy, and upon my sixteenth birthday, I was promoted from cashier to pharmacy technician. I ended up working in the pharmacy all throughout high school and when I returned home on breaks during my freshman year of college. I developed valuable competencies through being responsible for filling prescriptions, scheduling deliveries, ordering and stocking inventory, and assisting customers.
During this past summer, before I began my sophomore year at Pitt, I was a marketing and social media intern at a local health and wellness center in my hometown. I was mainly tasked with designing marketing and sales handouts, event and merchandise flyers, and social media graphics. I also developed marketing timelines, managed the organization’s social media presence, and photographed events. This position, along with the Plus 3 program, is what solidified my love for marketing. I was extremely passionate about the work I was doing.
As obsessed as I was with my time spent in Germany, I knew since high school that I wanted to study abroad in London, England. I chose the Global Business Institute: London program because it was the perfect fit for me personally, academically, and professionally. Just as I love Pittsburgh, I love the culture London has to offer as well. I hope to personally develop by building relationships and gaining adaptability. I cannot wait to have the chance to walk the streets and explore! This program still has a lot more to offer me, though. From an academic standpoint, I will be taking several classes that earn credit toward my degrees. I believe that they will really further my knowledge in my desired fields of study. These classes include Managing Global Supply Chains, Advertising and Marketing in Britain, and International Marketing. Finally, I will be advancing my professional career while abroad through an internship program. I plan for these 20 hours a week to provide me with real life experience that I can apply in the future. I feel beyond lucky and grateful to have the opportunity to partake in this program. I cannot wait to see what London brings!
