My Trips: Bali and New Zealand

During my time in Australia I went on two big trips. The first trip I went on was to Bali as I mentioned in one of my previous posts. During our spring (fall) break week myself and several other CAPA students ventured to Bali, Indonesia for the week. It was one of the most memorable trips of my life and I’m so glad that I did it. Bali is so much different than the USA or Australia and it was really interesting to see what life is like in Indonesia. First of all, driving in Bali is crazy, there are so few rules of the road that cars and bikes simply go wherever they please (even on the sidewalks!). We were able to stay in a very nice villa with a pool and chefs at a relatively reasonable price. All in all, this vacation was one of my favorites in my life so far.

Another trip that I took and actually just returned from was to the north island of New Zealand. Coming into this program I really wanted to travel to New Zealand at some point and I was finally able to. While in New Zealand I was able to see some really cool volcanic areas. While I was there, I was able to see geysers and lakes/ponds in geothermal sites, hike a volcano, take a jet boating tour and see a glow worm cave. It was really amazing seeing all these unique and beautiful things because there is nothing like it near the United States.

Planning trips on your own and with your friends can be stressful, but they can be so much fun as well. Make sure to book your flights early if you plan on traveling. As you may know airline tickets can go up a lot the longer you wait to book so it is best to book the flight early and the hotels and excursions later. Another tip I have if you plan on going on a trip while abroad is don’t be afraid to take a trip early in the semester. Often times the beginning of the semester is the least busy and even though you just arrived in your home for the next 3 months planning a trip early in the semester could be the best travel time for you. Where ever and when ever you travel make sure you do things you want to do because you may not get another opportunity!
