Hi, my name is Evan Heilman and I’m from Upper St Clair, Pennsylvania. My love for Pittsburgh started in the sports world, following the Steelers, the Pirates, the Pens, and of course, the Pitt football and basketball teams. Basketball is my passion, and I played since I was five years old and all throughout high school. Since coming to campus, I have already gotten to engage in some of the things I love about Pittsburgh. I’ve played basketball with my fellow Haller Global Honors Fellows, as well as we are going to a Pirates game. Coming to Pitt was always my mind in high school, and great opportunists such as this fellowship only helped make the decision even easier. While I’m here, I hope to continue seeing and doing the things I already love about Pittsburgh, as well as receive a great education and capitalize on the programs Pitt has to offer.
The Haller Global Honors Fellowship will not be my first educational visit abroad. In the summer leading into my senior year of high school, I participated in a French-American exchange where I lived in Lyon, France for 2.5 weeks, and then traveled to various parts of France, including Paris. However, I am more excited for the Haller program due to its larger focus on education, cultural integration, and helpful transition into college. Dr. Ray Jones is leading very instructional, entertaining lectures and discussions that are really helping me grasp the complex environment of the business world, not to mention the site visits we are doing at prominent Pittsburgh companies, as well as at companies in Ireland. I find the site visits especially entertaining as they provide great experience so early in my business career to learn about how companies actually function in the real world. I am very thankful and appreciative to be a part of this program, and I look forward to making the most of it. H2P!
