Positive Advertising Experience in a Targeted Market Segment: Similar to my Lady GaGa “Something about my cool Pittsburgh guy….” example, describe a time when an advertising campaign did a compelling job appealing to you as a member of a targeted market segment.
The advertising campaign for Ford trucks is especially compelling to me because I am extremely utilitarian as a person. I love to get the most out of any product I buy, and I like a vehicle that is tough and rugged. While Chevrolet showboats its abundant awards, Ford states the plain facts that it is the toughest, most capable truck brand, and that’s something I can really get behind that speaks to me as a person.
Negative Advertising Experience in a Targeted Market Segment: Similar to the creeped-out reaction I am having to the LenCrafters’ office sending me a fake optometry appointment notice for August 6, 2019 (which is actually an attempt to target me as a returning customer segment of the LensCrafters in Ross Park Mall), describe a time when an advertising campaign really missed the mark while trying to appeal to you as a member of a targeted market segment.
I purchased a large quantity of almond oil from a website that sells fragrance oils and other botanicals, but as part of the checkout process, I needed to provide my email address. Now I get at least one email every day offering promos and “exclusive” deals on fragrances and botanicals that I have no interest in buying. This is an attempt to target me as a return customer segment for apothecary goods, but I have no intention of ever buying anything from that website again.

I will try to relate more personally with the item I am marketing when trying to target market segments and provide advertising that would appeal to them. In the process I will not send an excess number of promos, either. I will use marketing strategies that would market the item as would be effective on me, and limit the quantity of advertisements I put out.
