While I am in Ireland, I would like to learn more about the Irish potato famine that occurred in the mid nineteenth century. I find the famine extremely interesting because of how influential it was in shaping America. The famine forced 1.5 million Irish to leave their homes in search of a better life in America, bringing in enormous amounts of inexpensive and hard-working laborers during the boom of the Industrial Revolution. It is really intriguing to me that the Irish culture has spread and flourished as much as it has, because Ireland itself is not a very large country.
