The Global Aspect In A Familiar Environment (Haller Global Honors Fellowship Day 1)

Hello! My name is Benjamin Cronin, an incoming first-year this year at Pitt! I am from Monaca, Pennsylvania (just 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh), and I will be pursuing a double major in Finance and Business Information Systems with a certificate in Business Analytics. With this in mind, I look to become a financial analyst, actuary, or tackle a job in sports finance.

As a member for the Pitt Business Honors Program and the Honors College, I looked for ways that I could challenge myself and jumpstart my path in the business community–the Haller Global Honors Fellowship. After learning I was accepted, I was ecstatic to say the least, for this was my opportunity to accomplish some of my goals before the start of my freshman year (an option that many students do not have).

Within the program, my team was asked to discuss a plan to better establish fundraising and donations for the Southwark Pensioners Centre (SPC). As the Project Manager of the Donor Assessment and Fundraiser Enhancement Program/Team, I was excited to keep my peers on track and to tackle the task head-on. As the project manager, I lead the team into challenging tasks, monitor the program progress, evaluate the logistics of the project, and attempt to answer questions when asked. I, along with my team, are ready to work and accept the challenges that the SPC has to offer. I not only chose the Haller Fellowship to guide me ahead of others and onto a path best for me professionally, but I, in addition, wanted to create friendships and relationships with faculty and other Pitt Business students. I believe this opportunity will allow me to fully ‘get a grasp’ of what Pitt Business has to offer, especially as a Finance major. In doing so all before my first class, I have better prepared myself for my college experience. Personally, I hope for this program to allow me to gain friendships (that way I at least know a few people on campus) and to adapt possible mentorships with faculty members. Academically, this program allows me to complete meaningful work through the global business world. This is an experience that furthers my studies and prepares me for a challenging future. Professionally, I hope to gain networking skills and a resume starter that will allow me to stand out from my peers.

I cannot wait to begin at Pitt this upcoming fall, especially as a business and honors student!
