When referring back to Irish history the disaster most notiable is the potato famine that occurred. Another event that happened in the past wasvthe Irish Civil War that occurred in the 1920s. The war was fought over a treaty called the Anglo-Irish Treaty. I found an interest in this topic when it was introduced through a poem I read in the War unit of this poetry class. The poem was about a sniper that ended up unknowingly killing his brother in the middle of the night because they were on opposite sides of the army. Whether or not the poem was based on a true story it just gave me an interest in thinking about the war and how in a political based civil war you can end up fighting your own friends and family. This also included the creation of Northern Ireland which is a big part of the separation in Ireland.
