Dublin week 2!

Orientation week has flown by filled with different activities to get everyone adjusted to life in Dublin. Filled with Gaelic sports, a trip to Kilkenny, meeting my roommates and everyone on the program. It has been a very enjoyable and felt like as if this has been a vacation.

Tomorrow I will be starting my internship. The first-day nerves are still very much present, but it is mostly just the excitement I am feeling for this new chapter. I have been wanting to work in the live music industry for several years now. I am very excited to be participating in this internship. I am eager to start and see what I can learn at my internship. I want to fully immerse myself in the company. I want to get the most out of it as I possibly can. Tomorrow morning, I don’t want to be stressed in the morning so I will allow myself extra time. It will take some time to adjust back to having a daily schedule of waking up at 7 am. To My commute takes around 40 minutes to get to the venue.

I had an in-person interview for my placement where I was able to learn more specifically of what the tasks for this internship entail. When I get to the venue for my first day, I will be meeting with my advisor to go over a timeline for the entire time of the internship. I will be given an itinerary for my first week. This will be a very in-depth of all the shows and what I will be needed to publish promotions for. Along with tasks that will be completely independent for me and timelines for those. But tomorrow I will be able to get a good overall view of what I need to complete in my time here.

During my first week of work, I will be able to meet the other intern working. She goes to music school here in Dublin, but she will be working on the booking side of live music while I will be focusing on media management. I am looking forward to working with mostly everyone who is around my age.

In terms of prioritizing my tasks, I need to focus on deadlines. Since it is about promoting live music, I need to focus on what exactly needs to be posted and when. If a show is not sold-out focus on promoting that so people buy the tickets. These posts take priority over just the updating the followers about the venue.  Breaking down the larger tasks into much smaller pieces and then combining is a useful strategy that has been helpful for me in the past. My strategy in being able to be successful is to make a calendar with everything on it. This way I will be able to visualize every deadline in a time frame rather than something I need to complete. This way I will ensure I will not forget about anything, and I will be able to start it sooner so nothing will be rushed.

Having conversations with my supervisor will be very helpful towards time management. Being able to form a workplace relationship will allow me to finish projects with ease. During the interview, he said that social media posts will allow me to have the freedom to do whatever I want with them and that I have the ability to run anything by him. This will make the creative process a lot easier by having someone to bounce ideas off of.

Aside from my full-time internship like everyone else I have to complete the academic requirement from the University of Pittsburgh. I want to make sure that this does not feel overwhelming, so I will complete small parts of the blog post every day or dedicate a day to do it. Along with this, I have responsivities with my sorority. I have to make sure I have time to attend meetings and meet deadlines on everything prior to school starting in the fall. To make sure I don’t feel overwhelmed I will be dedicating one little activity towards relaxing for me. Whether that be getting takeout after work, going on a walk, or doing a little bit of shopping I want to make sure that I have a good balance with all my responsivities. Being able to balance all the activities I want to do during my time here in Dublin and working is going to require a great amount of time management.
