During our tours of Dublin, I learned a lot about its history and its current environment. For example, we talked about the long tension Ireland has had with Britain, and where in Ireland’s history that steams from. Britain colonized Ireland centuries ago and continued to rule them in very aggressive and restrictive ways. There are still bullet holes in buildings from the British trying to stop revolutions, which act as reminders of the violence between the two nations. This has led Ireland to fight for their independence and create a culture surrounding being different than Britain. The Irish strive to not be demanding or rude like how the British were to them, which brings respect and kindness to many parts of Ireland, including their businesses. This lesson taught us how to interact with businesspeople on site visits and while working with Shareclub.

I also realized that Dublin has many pedestrian only roads. I thought this was very interesting since the U.S. doesn’t usually have those. Also, public transportation like buses and taxis are widely used here. This showed me how sustainable their transportation methods are. Because Dublin already uses sustainability practices daily, this can be an opportunity for Shareclub since there is already a large group of people who support sustainability and most likely her mission.
