Irish Culture

One major difference between the US and Ireland is the culture surrounding college life. In America, many people, such as myself, will travel to the other side of the country for college, although Ireland is much smaller than the US, people generally stay in their home county for school. There is also less of a college community life here at Trinity. For example, there are no official school sports teams, just recreational ones, there are very few dining halls, and all housing is more apartment style, with no community feel.

Another difference is how business is conducted. Since Ireland is a small country, networking is easier and business events are often conducted in a very social environment. While there is still a drive for profit, companies here are different from those in the US when it comes to revenue. For example, today we met with the head of an animation studio with a children’s show currently airing on an Irish TV channel. The Irish network is focused on distributing a show that children will enjoy watching, while companies like Disney will oftentimes base their cartoons entirely around selling merchandise relating to them.
