Hey everyone! What’s going on? It’s so far been such a great time here in London! I love it here so much. My Tube navigation skills have been improving and we have fixed our apartment appliances issue. My internship has also been going very well. Like I said in my last post, I love my coworkers and supervisor, as well as the environment! Some soft skills that I have been able to develop effectively in my position so far would be improved time management, critical thinking, and problem solving. Time management is a major soft skill that I have been able to employ over here, mostly because one of my classes has already been a decent amount of work as well as keeping up with my internship which mostly has been creating financial models, depreciation schedules, budgeting models, and invoice/bill breakdowns. The commute is very long as well. I have to essentially go to the absolute opposite side of the city via the Tube. I love using the Tube, though. In mentioning the commute, it has also played a major factor in my time management so far, as it slots up a major chunk of time both ways. Critical thinking has also been a soft skill that I’ve been able to use here, mostly because I need to be creative and use novel ideas when solving the major (start-up company type of) problems my company is currently facing and how to work around certain other problems as well. I’ve been loving the opportunities and experiences that accompany these problems. A technical/”hard” skill that I have gained since being here would be project leadership. I have essentially been in charge of some of my own projects, so I’ve had the privilege of experiencing what it is like to (in a way) be my own “boss” when breaking down the necessary steps and goals to each project that I’ve done. In the aggregate, these soft and hard skills will help me in the future, especially in my professional career. I believe that if I can develop my project leadership and creativity skills, then I think I’ll have a more successful and competent career starting right from the first day. As cliche as that sounds, I truly think these skills will give me an edge as I enter the workforce and my desired field. In terms of my academic goals, I believe these soft and hard skills will help me in my last two years. Being able to continue developing my time management and critical thinking skills will only help me in the aggregate when studying, doing projects, as well as small homeworks. In terms of my personal goals, I want to be as analytical as possible. This also does tie in with my professional goals, but I believe on a personal level, that I can improve on being a better person. By the end of this program, I believe that I’ll be able to effectively adapt to any work environment as well as thoroughly advance my analytical skills.
