Hello! My name is Rehya Satish, and I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. However, my journey has taken me beyond borders, as I spent a significant part of my childhood in India. This experience broadened my perspective and instilled in me a curiosity about different cultures and ways of life and taught me how to speak Telugu and Tamil. When I’m not pursuing my degree, I have a love for movies, TV shows, reading and playing sports like volleyball, tennis, and skiing. Additionally, I find joy in creative pursuits such as baking and drawing.

Currently, I am starting my third year at the University of Pittsburgh, where I am majoring in Applied Mathematics and minoring in Economics, with a potential additional minor in Computer Science. My academic pursuits stem from a passion for the intersection of math and economics, which has led me to delve into various opportunities to apply and share my knowledge. One of these opportunities being a part-time math and economics tutor. I find fulfillment in helping others grasp these complex subjects which I once previously struggled with but grew to love.

Outside the classroom, I am involved in extracurricular activities that allow me to further develop my skills and interests. Joining freshman year as a Junior analyst, I am now a Senior Analyst at the University of Pittsburgh’s Socially Responsible Investment Portfolio, a student run investment club where I contribute to analyzing investment opportunities with a focus on ethical and sustainable practices. Additionally, I am a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Furthermore, I have also taken on leadership roles, such as serving as a logistics chair for Taaza, a Bollywood fusion dance competition based in Pittsburgh.

Looking ahead, my professional aspirations lie in the finance industry, particularly in investment banking or quantitative research within private equity and venture capital firms. These career paths align perfectly with my academic background and interests, offering opportunities to apply mathematical models and economic theories to real-world financial scenarios.

This summer, I am thrilled to participate in Pitt’s International Internship Program in Prague, Czech Republic. My decision to pursue this program was twofold: to gain valuable work experience and immerse myself in a new cultural environment, as well as take a deep dive into Prague’s rich history and untouched architectural beauty, one of the only places not touched by World War 2, making it an ideal destination to explore.

On a personal level, I see this internship as an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery and stepping out of my comfort zone. I aim to embrace new challenges, adapt to unfamiliar surroundings, and broaden my global perspective. I aspire to enhance my organizational and time management skills while immersing myself in the Czech culture and lifestyle. I also hope to break out of my shell as I am normally shy. Additionally I wish to come back from this experience and become a better, more well rounded version of myself.

Academically, I look forward to applying classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, gaining practical insights that cannot be replicated in a traditional academic setting. Moreover, I am eager to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, honing my communication and teamwork skills while expanding my professional network. This experience will allow me to see the applications of all the knowledge I learned from class. Reinforcing these basics I learned in my first few years at college will allow me to excel in my higher level classes.

Professionally, I would firstly like to grow the size of my professional network. I would also hope to learn concepts, ideas, and skills, I would otherwise not be able to learn in an academic environment. I want to learn skills that will be useful in my future career ambitions. I believe working in a completely different environment will not only make me comfortable with the uncomfortable but also teach me valuable professional skills, such as effective and efficient communication, compromising and understanding with people who think differently than me, in turn making me a better team player. I will also use this experience as a way to truly understand the work I’ll be doing in the future, and to see if I truly want to pursue a career in this sect of finance.

In essence, my journey to Prague represents a convergence of personal, academic, and professional aspirations. I am excited to embark on this transformative experience, embracing every opportunity for growth, learning, and cultural exchange. As I embark on this new chapter, I am filled with anticipation and enthusiasm for the adventures that lie ahead
