My second week in Dublin was a good week. I had a pretty eventful week and a good weekend. The first week of my internship at World Vision Ireland went well. My supervisor told me to work from home for the first week since the company was pretty busy, so I went and read through all of the company policies and employee handbook. Then I did some online training modules on stuff like ethics in the workplace and other certificates that I needed to get. This weekend, me and some of my friends went to Galway and it was a lot of fun. We took the bus out there which was a pretty long ride, I think it was about three and a half hours. When we got there we went to this sandwich place called Melt’d which was great. Then we checked into our hostel which was pretty nice, and it was right in the middle of the city. After that we went walking around the city to explore. It was the Folk Festival there, so there was a lot of good street performers all of the city. After walking around for a while, walking to the water, we went back to the hostel for a bit and then we went out to explore some more that night. The next day we went to see the Cliffs of Moher and that was really cool. All of the views from up there were great. I’m a big Harry Potter fan, and I found out that the cave that is in the cliffs is actually in one of the movies, so that was really cool for me. It was really windy when we went, but we made the most of it, although dust kept flying up into our eyes. We had to take another bus there but it was worth it. I think that it was my favorite thing that I saw so far. The view really was something. It’s probably the one thing that I would recommend the most to anybody here that wants to go see something. After we walked around for a couple of hours, we got back on the bus and went back to Galway. Once we got there, we took the train back to Dublin. The train was definitely better than the bus was, a whole lot better. There was much more room on he train, and it went faster. The train ticket was also cheaper then the bus ticket was. Then, just one more Leap bus more and it was back to UCD.
With the weekend over, it was time to get back to work. I think that the most important part of time management is setting goals for what you want to complete. For instance, plan out what you want to have done before lunch, and then plan what you want to have done after lunch and before it is time to go home. I think it is also important to get the longer tasks done first. With the training modules that I was doing, they went anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour. I prioritized doing the one hour ones and the other long ones before I did the short fifteen minute ones. I thought that it would be a good idea so that I’m not scrambling to get the long ones done right before work ends so that I don’t need to finish them the next day. So now I can move on to other tasks tomorrow. It is also good to make clarify what you should be doing with your supervisor. After I finished signing the documents and reading the policies, it was two o’clock and I wasn’t sure what else to do. So then I asked my supervisor and she told me about the learning modules. It is always good to make sure that you are staying on track through the course of the work day. It is also important to take some breaks. Nothing major, just five minutes here and there. I was doing a lot of reading today, and after a while it can really start to get to you. To stop yourself from burning out, taking a five minute break every half hour or so seemed to work pretty well for me today. During my lunch break, I took a walk while listening to some music, which was a good break from the work I was doing. I also talked to some of my coworkers during the lunch break as well.
