Grazie e Arrivederci Firenze!

The past few months in Florence have been nothing short of incredible. Studying abroad here has been a truly transformative experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I’ve learned so much about myself through both exciting and challenging moments. I experienced the joy of discovering new places, connecting with people from different backgrounds, and immersing myself in Italian culture. My Italian language skills have grown stronger and stronger every day, where I now feel confident conversing with locals. At the same time, I navigated obstacles, felt moments of uncertainty, and had to adjust to being far from home. Through all of it, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. During my time in Florence, I balanced academics with an internship at Tiche Clothing, a small boutique in the city. This hands-on experience allowed me to dive deeper into the local culture while learning more about the marketing and fashion industries. Working at Tiche gave me an inside look at how small businesses operate in Florence and how Italian fashion brands promote themselves. I gained experience in digital marketing, public relations, and event coordination, which has strengthened my professional skill set and given me more confidence in my career path. Personally, I’ve become much more independent. Being in a new country meant managing day to day responsibilities on my own, from navigating the new environment to balancing my internship, classes, and daily life. This experience helped me build confidence in my decision-making and problem solving abilities. I now feel more self-assured and capable, both personally and professionally. Academically, I developed stronger time management and organizational skills. Balancing my internship with classes and everyday life taught me how to prioritize tasks and manage my time effectively. I learned to take initiative and stay focused, even in a new and exciting environment. These skills will be incredibly useful as I return to Pitt and prepare for future internships and career opportunities. One of the most important takeaways from this experience is my increased adaptability. Living and working in a different culture meant adjusting to new situations often. Whether it was working with a team in a new language or figuring things out on the fly, I learned to be flexible and open to change. I know I can bring this adaptability into any future role and be a dependable, quick-thinking team member. I also developed greater cultural awareness, which I believe is essential in both the workplace and in everyday life. By living in a new culture, I learned how to better understand and communicate with people from different backgrounds. This will help me build stronger relationships with coworkers, clients, and peers, and contribute to a more inclusive, respectful work environment. My time in Florence was more than just a study abroad, it was a time of real growth. I feel more confident, capable, and prepared for what comes next. I will always be grateful for this opportunity and the many lessons it taught me. I can confidently say that I will carry this experience with me for the rest of my life.
