My Florence Farewell!

Wow, I can’t believe my time in Florence is already coming to an end. It’s surreal to think that four months have passed so quickly—it truly feels like I just arrived, wide-eyed and unsure of what to expect. When I first stepped off the plane, I never imagined just how much this city would come to feel like home, or how deeply I would grow—personally, academically, and professionally. Florence has given me more than I could’ve hoped for, and I am truly grateful for my scholarship donor, who made this experience possible. Your support has allowed me to pursue a life-changing experience, creating countless memories and life-long friendships. This semester has been nothing short of transformational, and I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity that you have given me.

As I prepare to say goodbye, I find myself reflecting on all the ways this journey has shaped who I am today. My time in Florence has helped me become a more independent and confident person. This experience has pushed me beyond my comfort zone and taught me that I can handle any situation that life throws my way. Whether that is navigating a new city, embracing a different culture, or being on my own, I know that I am able to handle it on my own. I have learned how to be flexible in new situations, and to really embrace change. During my time in Florence I have been faced with many situations in which I was uncomfortable, or unsure of what to do, but the more I navigated these situations, the more comfortable I became with the uncomfortable.

Academically, I have been exposed to very different perspectives about education, and how others view the world. I have learned what it meant to be a student in Florence, and how to really learn and understand the city. I have learned about Finance on a global scale, and the impacts of tourism on smaller cities like Florence. I was able to see the world from a new lens and I am truly grateful for this new perspective that I have gained. I have also been fortunate to experience what professional life is like in Florence. I have learned about Italian customs, the similarities and differences of American and Italian work culture, and I have gained a better understanding on how I work with others. My internship here in Florence has developed my interpersonal and intercultural skill set, and has allowed me to see Florentine culture from a local perspective.

My biggest takeaway from this experience, and life in general is the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone. This is when growth can truly manifest, whether that is growth professionally, personally, or emotionally. You must learn how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. This is something that I will take home with me. Looking ahead, I know this experience will serve as a cornerstone in my personal and professional journey. So once again, thank you to my donor for this incredible opportunity.
