Hi! This semester I am not participating in the Internship program, but I am taking a course that is very similar called the Consulting Field Project. Apart from that, I am also currently enrolled in other engaging courses including International Economics, Renaissance Art History, and Italian 101. These courses differ significantly from the courses I typically take at Pitt. One aspect I especially appreciate is the small class structure, which allows me to actively engage with my peers and professors.
In my consulting class, we are focused on providing strategic advice to a medium-sized firm. I am part of the Operations team, where I am heavily involved in event planning and organizational logistics. One challenge I have encountered while working on this team is navigating the language barrier and the cultural differences. My Renaissance Art History course has also been exciting, as it includes various sites to churches and museums. Being able to see the artworks in person, which I had only previously heard about, has been an incredible experience. Additionally, I am now able to understand their historical and cultural significance.
I am also taking Italian as a required course. I enjoy learning new languages and am currently pursuing a French minor, in addition to being fluent in Spanish. My International Economics has also been equally interesting, as it provides insight to global economic systems and business practices across different countries. Both the consulting and economics course count toward my Global Management major, making them especially relevant to my academic and professional goals.
To be successful in this academic environment, I have learned that it is essential to remain open-minded to new perspectives and to be adaptable to new environments. Studying in a new cultural setting has encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and embrace learning experiences that may feel unfamiliar at first. These skills are not only valuable in the classroom, but also in future professional environments.
Being half way through the program feels extremely surreal. I am so excited to continue learning in my classes and challenge myself academically.
