Last Moments in London

As I reflect on the past few months, it is crazy to think how fast time has flown by. I can’t believe there’s only two and a half weeks left in the program. This experience has truly been amazing, and has helped me grow in so many ways both inside and outside of the classroom.

In terms of academic growth, I’ve been able to further my studies by taking two finance courses and one economics course that comply with my major and minor requirements. Taking these classes here in London has helped me gain a unique perspective on these subjects from a global standpoint, which is something I’m looking forward to taking back with me upon returning to the US and Pitt. My other class, London and the History of Fashion, allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and broaden my academic knowledge. I really enjoyed learning more about London through the lens of fashion and dress history, and also being able to visit the V&A Museum and the British Museum as a part of assignment research.

I would say I definitely developed soft skills such as problem-solving and adaptability through my travels and activities outside of the classroom. Traveling during the weekends was an incredible opportunity for me to explore other countries and to experience new cultures. Whether it was navigating a language barrier or exploring a new landmark, every experience was unique and enriching in its own way. Some highlights for me from this semester were learning how to make my own pasta in Florence and getting to see a soccer game in Barcelona, which were both unforgettable memories. All of the skills I have developed while living abroad will be useful as I return to the US and continue my personal and professional journey. For example, navigating the complexities of international travel has strengthened my ability to manage high pressure situations, which will be crucial as I prepare to enter the fast paced world of Finance. Communication has also been an important skill that I have honed while abroad, whether through collaborating with classmates on group projects or planning trips with my friends. These will be helpful in my future career and the rest of my time at Pitt Business because they are applicable to many different situations, whether it’s academic related or outside of the classroom.

Overall, I’m really grateful to have had this opportunity to study abroad and to have experienced living in a new country. This has truly been a transformative experience, and I enjoyed getting to live in London for a few months. I’m very thankful I had the chance to learn and grow through a program like GBI London, and while I’m sad to leave, I’m excited to take all of the lessons I learned while abroad back with me as I look ahead towards the future.
