Week 2: Working at W3

My first week officially starting my internship at W3 in Berlin has been an exciting and rewarding experience so far. Over the past week, I have had the opportunity to meet so many new people from different backgrounds, spend time in a creative work environment, and even get to know the company dogs that are always around the office. The atmosphere at W3 is very different from many traditional office spaces because it combines professionalism with creativity and collaboration. Since W3 works within the Web3, AI, and tech community, there is always something happening, whether that is networking events, content creation, brainstorming sessions, or people casually discussing new ideas throughout the workspace.

One of the most exciting parts of my internship so far has been gaining hands-on experience creating content and helping with internal management tasks. I have already started learning more about how companies market themselves within the tech industry and how social media plays such a large role in building community and engagement. Working in an international environment has also been interesting because I am constantly surrounded by people from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds. Even during casual conversations, I find myself learning about different perspectives on work culture, communication styles, and productivity. Being in Berlin has already pushed me outside of my comfort zone in a positive way and has helped me become more adaptable in professional settings.

Because there are so many moving parts throughout the day, learning how to effectively manage my time has become extremely important. Although this is only my first week, I have already realized that staying organized is one of the key factors in being successful during an internship. As someone who considers themselves a very Type A person, organization has always been something I value. However, balancing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced international work environment has challenged me to become even more intentional with how I prioritize my tasks and structure my day.

To stay organized, I use both an online to-do list and a physical planner. Having both systems helps me stay on top of deadlines while also giving me the satisfaction of physically checking tasks off throughout the day. Every morning before I begin working, I make a list of everything I need to accomplish and rank each task based on importance and how time-consuming it will be. This system has helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed because instead of focusing on everything at once, I can break my day into manageable sections.

One strategy that has worked especially well for me is completing smaller but important tasks during the first half of the day when I have the most energy and focus. For example, I might answer emails, organize content ideas, update documents, or complete smaller assignments earlier in the morning. Then, during the second half of the day, I focus on larger projects that require more creativity, problem-solving, or collaboration. Breaking my workload up this way helps me stay productive without mentally exhausting myself too early in the day.

Another thing I have appreciated about working at W3 is the company culture surrounding work-life balance. Even though everyone is hardworking and motivated, there is still a strong emphasis on creating an enjoyable and collaborative environment. Throughout the day, people take breaks to talk, eat lunch together, or participate in activities around the office. One of my favorite moments so far has been participating in team ping pong tournaments during breaks. While it may seem small, these moments actually make a huge difference in maintaining productivity and motivation throughout the day. Taking a short break to reset mentally helps me return to my work feeling more focused instead of overwhelmed.

I have also noticed differences between workplace culture in Berlin compared to what I am used to in the United States. In Berlin, there seems to be a stronger emphasis on balance, creativity, and collaboration within the workplace. People still work hard and meet deadlines, but there is also an understanding that productivity improves when employees feel comfortable and supported. Seeing this approach firsthand has changed some of my own perspectives about professional environments and has shown me that successful workplaces do not always need to feel overly rigid or stressful.

Overall, my first week at W3 has already taught me valuable lessons about time management, prioritization, adaptability, and balance. Learning how to structure my day, stay organized, and manage multiple responsibilities in an international internship setting has already contributed to my professional development. Beyond just improving my work habits, this experience has also helped me develop stronger global competencies by exposing me to new workplace cultures, communication styles, and perspectives. I am excited to continue growing throughout the rest of my internship and to see how these experiences continue to shape both my personal and professional development during my time abroad.
