Over the past eight weeks, my experience in Berlin has been one of the most rewarding and transformative opportunities I have ever had. Coming into this internship, I expected to gain professional experience in an international setting, but I left with so much more than that. I developed new skills, built meaningful relationships, immersed myself in a new culture, and gained a new perspective on both my personal and professional future. Looking back, I can honestly say that I do not have a single negative thing to say about my time here. Every challenge became a learning opportunity, every new experience helped me grow, and every day reminded me how grateful I was to be part of this program.

I am incredibly thankful to everyone who made this experience possible. I especially want to thank my parents for their endless support and encouragement, as well as the sponsors whose generosity allowed me to participate in this program. Without their investment in students like me, I would never have had the opportunity to live and work abroad. This experience truly has been the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will always appreciate everyone who helped make it possible.

Professionally, my internship at w3.hub exceeded every expectation I had. Working for a Web3 startup in Berlin gave me hands-on experience that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom. Because the company is small and fast-paced, I was trusted with meaningful responsibilities from the very beginning. Throughout the internship, I helped manage the company’s social media presence across Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, created marketing campaigns, developed content strategies, promoted events, and even helped shape the company’s online brand. I had the opportunity to attend major events during Berlin Blockchain Week, create real-time content, interview attendees, and work alongside professionals from around the world. Rather than completing repetitive intern tasks, I was encouraged to think creatively, work independently, and contribute ideas that had a real impact on the company.

One of the biggest professional lessons I learned was the importance of taking initiative. My supervisor gave me the freedom to own projects and trusted me to make decisions, which pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I became much more confident in my ability to solve problems independently, communicate ideas clearly, and adapt to changing priorities. These are skills that will benefit me throughout my future career, regardless of the industry I work in.

Academically, this experience helped connect everything I have been learning at the University of Pittsburgh to real-world business situations. Concepts from my business classes, such as marketing strategy, branding, communication, teamwork, and global management, became part of my everyday responsibilities. I was able to see firsthand how startups operate, how marketing decisions influence business growth, and how important adaptability is in an entrepreneurial environment. Working in such an innovative industry also introduced me to technologies and business models that I had not previously explored, expanding my understanding of global business and preparing me for future coursework and career opportunities.

Personally, I experienced the greatest growth. Living in another country taught me independence in ways I never expected. From navigating Berlin’s public transportation system to adjusting to cultural differences, every day required flexibility and confidence. I learned to embrace unfamiliar situations instead of avoiding them. I became more comfortable meeting new people, communicating with individuals from different backgrounds, and stepping outside of my comfort zone. Berlin is an incredibly international city, and I had the chance to interact with people from all over the world, each bringing unique experiences and perspectives. These conversations broadened my worldview and reminded me how valuable diversity is in both life and business.

Beyond my internship, I also grew by experiencing everyday life in Germany. I came to appreciate the strong work-life balance, where employees genuinely value taking breaks, spending time together, and maintaining healthy boundaries between work and personal life. I explored the city’s history, visited museums, enjoyed local parks, traveled throughout Europe, tried new foods, and experienced cultures that were completely different from my own. These moments outside of the office were just as valuable as the professional experiences because they allowed me to fully immerse myself in life abroad.

As I return to Pitt, I plan to bring back much more than just internship experience. I will bring greater confidence in my abilities, stronger communication skills, a more global perspective, and a willingness to take initiative. I hope to apply what I learned in future leadership positions, internships, and classroom discussions. This experience reinforced my interest in pursuing a career where I can work with diverse teams, solve complex business challenges, and continue learning from people around the world. Whether I pursue management consulting or another business career, I know the lessons I learned in Berlin will continue to shape the way I approach my work.

When I think back on these eight weeks, I know this experience will stay with me forever. It challenged me, inspired me, and gave me memories that I will never forget. I leave Berlin with lifelong friendships, invaluable professional experience, and a much greater appreciation for the opportunities that come from stepping outside of my comfort zone. Most importantly, I leave feeling incredibly grateful. Grateful to my parents for believing in me, grateful to my internship supervisors for trusting me, grateful to the University of Pittsburgh for supporting international learning, and grateful to the donors and sponsors who made this journey possible. This experience has truly changed my life, and I know it will continue to influence my future for years to come. It has been an unforgettable chapter of my life, and one that I will always look back on with appreciation, pride, and gratitude.
