Today was one of those days where every stop felt different from the last. We started at Magheracross before going to Giant’s Causeway, and the views were incredible. Pictures don’t really capture how impressive it is in person. I thought it was interesting that the same place can be explained through science with volcanic activity or through Irish legends about giants. I liked hearing both because it made the place feel more meaningful than just another scenic stop.

After that, we visited the city of Derry and had gotten a tour of Derry’s city walls. Walking along them made me think about how the same landmark can represent different things depending on who you’re talking to. For some people the walls are a reminder of conflict, while for others they’re simply an important part of the city’s history.

Seeing all these memorable locations reminded me of the Peace Walls in Belfast we saw yesterday. Seeing all of the murals and messages about peace made me realize how recent the conflict actually was. Even though the tours do a good job explaining the history, I know they can’t include everyone’s experience. It made me think about how every historical site tells a story, but no single story can represent everyone who lived through it.
