My name is Kat Haesemeyer and I am a rising senior at the University of Pittsburgh. I’m enrolled in the College of Business Administration and am pursuing a degree in Marketing and Supply Chain Management. It’s hard to believe that this is my last summer as an undergrad, but there’s no better way to spend it than in Berlin, Germany! I have been studying the German language since eighth grade, so I am both excited and anxious to test my language skills around the city and in the workplace.
This summer I will be interning at Birkholz International GmbH. This is a private company that operates regionally in Europe as well as internationally in Arab countries. It has two sub-companies: a perfume and cosmetics manufacturing company called BB by Berlin and a logistics transport and service company called Birkholz Transports. I am incredibly excited about this opportunity as it caters to my duel major as well as my keen interest in the beauty industry and 3PL companies. In my future career, I expect to work with colleagues and customers from different countries, and cultural awareness and sensitivity will be an important success factor. One of the goals that I hope to achieve as part of the program is to build greater understanding of cultural similarities and differences in the business world. Working at a German-based company with an international footprint in the middle east will be a valuable experience for me.
A little background about me: I am from Washington Crossing Pennsylvania, a quaint historical town situated along the Delaware River on the eastern edge of PA. I am definitely going to miss spending my summer here with family ( especially my cat, Kevin), but am excited to explore Germany and Europe! I plan on exploring all of Berlin and Germany as well as a few countries in Europe.
I can’t wait to meet everyone and get situated in Berlin!
