So spring break has begun! Although we can’t completely forget about our school work and class this coming Monday, we can certainly take this week to experience something outside of our daily routines.
My flatmates and I began our adventures with a lovely trip to Rome! We stayed in Trastavere, a very richly cultured neighborhood on the west side of the river and about a 25 minute walk south of the Vatican City. It was absolutely amazing and for the first time I feel like this trip not only exceeded my high expectations but I felt as if I were in another world. The streets and the piazzas and the people and the historic sites and the FOOD were all just beyond expectations.
We saw the Coliseum, Arch, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, Piazza del Popolo, the Vatican City and all it entails. Pope Francesco came out at noon on Sunday to address his people and it was so warm and moving to see so many people share this experience.
The people were loud, friendly, overbearing, welcoming, rude and hilarious all at the same time. We spent the first night watching The Lizzie McGuire Movie, the first American exposure most of us had to the city of Rome as a kid seeing if it portrayed the city correctly.
We then made our way to Prague which is all in itself completely different. The streets may be stone but the buildings are a different style completely. The people are so used to English speaking tourists they have adopted it as a second common tongue.
The food is cheap and out of this world. Who could ask for better?
Our next trip takes us to Berlin which I am very excited for and have many things I wish to see. Until then ARRIVEDERCI!!
