Hello! My name is Kevin Kretz and I am currently a junior at the University of Pittsburgh in the College of Business Administration. Currently, I am majoring in finance with minors in Spanish and economics. I was born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania where I was involved in many clubs and sports at Hershey High School. The decision to attend the University of Pittsburgh was an easy one for me, as I believe the University possesses an infinite amount of opportunities being located in such a unique city. I am currently involved in a few different organizations at Pitt. First, I am a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity where I am a part of the recruitment committee. As a member of this committee, I am responsible for creating connections with potential members and coordinating recruitment events for upwards of 100 people. Additionally, I am currently the business manager for University of Pittsburgh Television where I manage and allocate funds for the entire organization. In terms of work, I began my experience at Hersheypark where I was a games area supervisor in charge of supervising an area of up to 11 employees at a time. Most recently, I worked at Byler Holdings as an accounting intern and was responsible for preparing yearly and monthly financial statements for review. In addition to all of this, I participated in the Pitt Business Plus 3 study abroad program where I traveled to China to study the Chinese smartphone business.
This upcoming semester, I will be studying abroad as a part of Pitt’s London GBI program. I chose this program mainly because of London’s importance in the global market. As a finance major, I feel as though studying business in one of the world’s financial capitals will be extremely beneficial in my academic and professional growth. In addition to this, I also chose London because of its proximity to other countries in Europe and the opportunity to travel and explore so many other countries and cultures. There are many things I hope to gain from this study abroad experience. First of all, I hope to grow personally over these next four months. I believe that it is very important to understand and learn from other cultures across the world in order to gain a wider perspective on humanity. In my opinion, there is no better way to do just this than by immersing myself in a foreign nation for the next few months. Additionally, I feel as though studying in London will be a great way for me to gain a great deal academically. As I stated previously, studying in such a large financial hub will be a great opportunity to gain knowledge in terms of finance as well as general business operations. Lastly, I hope that this experience in London will help me gain valuable experience professionally. Working a part time finance internship will be extremely effective in gaining experience and putting myself ahead of my peers when it comes to future employment opportunities. Taking all of this into consideration, I am extremely excited for the opportunity to spend the next few months studying and living in London!
