Landed in London

Hi everyone! My name is Avni Nangia and I am a rising junior at the College of Business Administration. I am originally from New Jersey which is about 6 hours away from Pitt. At Pitt, I am majoring in Finance and Business Information Systems and I am also an active member in the professional business organization, Delta Sigma Pi.

I am currently taking part in the Global Business Institute (GBI) London program for the summer 2022 semester. Even before starting college, I knew that I wanted to study abroad at some point in my time at Pitt. I have always heard people share the most amazing stories and experiences about their time abroad and how it has truly helped them further themselves not only professionally, but personally as well. I am excited about the prospect of having those stories and experiences for myself now, and being here for the past 2 weeks has already shown me that I made the right decision by deciding to come to London to take part in this study abroad program. London has always been a fascinating place to me as it is not only the hub of global finance and an excellent place to immerse yourself as a business student, but a beautiful city altogether with a wide range of intertwined cultures and endless opportunities to explore.

While here in London, I am taking part in an internship and taking an international finance class. Taking international finance in a different country will allow me to really grasp what the course content is about and learn about finance in a global context. I will be able to use what I learn in class in here and compare it to what we are taught back at home and how each country’s finance worlds differ. Along with this class I am also doing an internship at a healthcare company called Cavendish Imaging in their finance department.

Although I have only been here for two weeks, I can already see the impact that living abroad has had on me not only professionally but also personally. Being able to work and study here has shown me a different aspect of the international business world and I hope to be able to carry these experiences forward with me. I am so excited for what the rest of my study abroad experience will look like and I cannot wait to explore more of London.
