Talking with the owner of The Refillery taught me how much work goes into creating your own business. She has had a large deal of success and will still not become profitable for another 3-5 years. She consistently markets on social media, creates ties in the community, and makes appearances at events. I think the acknowledgement and realization of the amount of planning, risk, and time it takes to create a successful business was my largest professional development.
I was surprised by the level of independence that I got upon arriving on campus. I realized that my time was my own and I could use it how I wanted. I developed personally by trying to squeeze in as many activities as I could into any given night. This meant being diligent with assignments and planning my nights ahead of time. These time management skills will be extremely valuable as I move onto the fall semester and beyond.
