Dublin’s Docklands area is such a great fit for technological companies for a variety of reasons. First, Ireland’s tax rate is only 5%, which is one of the lowest tax rates in Europe. The low tax rate encourages companies to move their day-to-day operations to Dublin rather than another European country. Ireland is also a member of the EU, which means that when a company is headquartered here, they have access to the market from the entire EU. This is what encouraged tech companies to move to Dublin and resulted in the creation of the Docklands were created.
I could definitely see myself live in an area like the Docklands in the future. I don’t think that I would want to move to the Docklands in Dublin because right now, I don’t think I want to live in Europe. However, I like the idea of living in a technology centric area. Pittsburgh is currently becoming more focused on technology, and I’m interested to see where it goes and potentially live there after I finish college.
