Payton in Firenze!

Hello everyone! My name is Payton Cornetti. I am a junior from Butler, PA, currently studying abroad in Florence, Italy. I am enrolled in the College of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh, studying Finance and Accounting, and pursuing a minor in Economics. Last summer, I gained practical experience as an accounting intern at Bonus Accounting LLC, and this upcoming summer, I’m eagerly anticipating an audit internship at PwC in Pittsburgh.

So far, I am enjoying my academics and the cultural richness of Florence, Italy. I am part of the University of Pittsburgh’s Global Business Institute (GBI) Florence Program. GBI Florence provides experiential learning opportunities that encourage cultural competence. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for internships, enabling participants to gain practical skills and valuable experience in an international work setting.

Italy has always held a special place in my heart, given my Italian ancestry, and the recommendations from friends at Pitt about the GBI Florence program solidified my decision to participate. My main goal during this study abroad program is personal growth, which I hope to achieve through exposure to diverse cultures, customs, and experiences.

I am currently participating in the CEA Capa program in Florence, a host university that brings together students from various universities. The unique class structure here involves extended 3-hour courses once a week, allowing for concentrated learning and providing time for exploration of our new environment. My course load includes International Finance, Italian, Renaissance Art History, and Oil Painting – a diverse mix of courses that count for credit at Pitt but allow me to learn more about the beautiful city which I am studying in.

I live in the Santa Croce neighborhood, where I share an apartment with three friends from Pitt Business. We have come to love our daily 15-minute walks to our school buildings. We stop to try new coffee shops on our street and get to know the owners and local residents around our neighborhood.

Adjusting to life in a new area initially posed its challenges, but Florence has swiftly become a second home. Each moment in this historic city feels special, and I am committed to fully embracing and appreciating this unique experience. The blend of interesting academics, cultural immersion, and the new friendships formed with both residents and fellow students make this study abroad journey an invaluable chapter in my academic and personal development. I am loving my time in Florence and do not want to take a moment for granted!
