Arrivederci

This experience can only be described as a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am happy to say that I am coming back to the United States a more well rounded and sound individual academically and personally. I had the opportunity to visit four new countries I never thought I would be able to explore. And I learned so many great pieces of information from professors who were extremely welcoming and helpful.

When I reflect on the ways I have grown throughout this semester, the list extensive. Personally, I have learned so much. Living alone in a foreign country has taught me how to not only be independent and navigate a foreign environment solo, but has also taught me to be confident in myself as a person. Going to college at the University of Pittsburgh taught me similar skills, but this was completely different. I was able to prove to myself that I am a person who can not only face adversity, but do it with a smile on my face. Academically, I am confident that the knowledge given to me can not be attained anywhere else in the world. The amount of abstract ideas from unique people I have come to learn and understand have broadened my understanding of the financial world. I have learned so much not only from my professors, but also from my peers that I have met along the way. Professionally, I have learned to give everyone the time of day, and to listen first and speak later. You never have a full understand of the knowledge or advice someone can gift you at first glance, and it is important to understand everyone has a story. I am leaving Florence with a new outlook on the professional world, now mindful of what the world has to offer to a student from Pittsburgh.

I have so many takeaways from this program that will benefit me academically and professionally moving forward. Firstly, I now understand what people mean when they say “business is the global language.” While the methods of doing business differ where you go, you can always find a team devoted to a common goal wherever you find yourself. I am looking forward to continuing my study of the Italian language, hopefully to broaden my career opportunities moving forward. Finally, I am coming home with a completely different outlook on culture. Culture is so important to so many people, and it is paramount to be mindful of the values of those you work with in a professional setting. No one prefers to work in an uncomfortable situation, and everyone can do their part to make everyone from all corners of the world feel safe and stable in the workplace.
