Hi, my name is Alexis Dindak and I am a junior at Pitt studying Finance and Marketing! I am originally from Irwin, PA, located around 40 minutes outside of the city. I’ve always loved Pittsburgh and find myself loving it even more while I am at the University of Pittsburgh. This past summer I interned with Intralux Electric, a company local to Trafford PA, where I worked alongside the company’s CFO, gaining a look into how a small business runs financially. Over the past three years I have been working as a Sales Associate at Club Pilates, where I have grown professionally in many ways. Two years ago I completed a 200-hour yoga certification that I utilize to teach classes at Yoga Flow Pittsburgh while I am in school!
To continue growing personally and academically, I chose GBI Florence; the program that I am a part of now! I have always been fascinated by the Italian culture of slow living and enjoying everyday life a little more than we do in America, something that is clear when living here. I took the opportunity to further my studies in one of the most beautiful cities in the world through this Panther Program! My goals are to experience as much of Florence as I can in the most authentic way possible. I also hope to learn more about myself as I adapt to a new culture and time away from what is familiar to me.
Studying in Florence has been a beautiful opportunity to continue my studies at Pitt, while adding in elements of Italian culture. Similar to my experience at Pitt, I am taking International Marketing and International Finance; both classes that further my knowledge in the majors I am pursuing. I am also taking an Italian language course and Renaissance Art History; both classes in which I am learning about the culture around me. I find that the phrases and pieces of art history I am learning can be found in the new neighborhood I am living in. I like that where I am living is in the city center, but is closer to more local bakeries and restaurants. I live in an apartment with six other girls who have become my good friends! I am adapting to a smaller living space and more people than I am used to, but am having fun while doing it. While in Florence, I have visited the Duomo, Santa Croce, and Santa Reparata, seeing beautiful art and history from centuries ago! I have also been fortunate enough to travel to Pisa, Rome, and Venice. I am excited to continue exploring and enjoying Firenze!
