Life in Florence!

Ciao everyone! My name is Logan Brinkman, and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Accounting and Finance. Personally, I enjoy staying active, traveling, and experiencing new cultures, so studying abroad felt like the perfect opportunity for both personal and academic growth.

I chose to study abroad in Italy because I wanted to immerse myself in a culture that values history, community, and tradition while continuing my academic progress. Italy’s global influence in business, art, and innovation makes it an exciting place to study. I was especially drawn to the location because of its rich cultural heritage, walkable cities, and vibrant student life. My goals for this program are to improve my Italian language skills, gain a global perspective on business and economics, and become more independent and adaptable.

Culturally, there are noticeable differences as well. Students here tend to gather in piazzas and cafés after class, and there is a strong emphasis on social connection and balance between academics and personal life. The pace feels slightly slower and more intentional compared to Pittsburgh.

Initially, I love how walkable my new neighborhood is. Everything, from grocery stores to restaurants to historic landmarks, is within a short walking distance. The architecture and atmosphere make even a simple walk to class feel special. I am currently living in an apartment in the city with roommates. Adjusting to apartment living in a new country has been an exciting challenge. From grocery shopping in Italian to navigating public transportation, each day presents a small learning opportunity. While there have been moments of adjustment, I am becoming more comfortable and confident in my independence.

Overall, this experience is already pushing me outside of my comfort zone in the best way possible. I am excited to continue learning, traveling, and growing throughout this program.
