11 more days until I say, “Arrivederci, Firenze,” and it could not feel less real. These past four months have held some of the most special, eye-opening moments of my life, and I will cherish my time abroad forever. I have changed and grown so much throughout this experience.
Professionally, I have noticed that I have gained stronger skills in relationship building. Taking the time to talk with someone about their personal life and truly appreciate conversation is a large part of Italian culture, and it is something I will take back with me after months of immersing myself in that lifestyle. This ability to build genuine connections is not only valuable for expanding a personal network, but it is also extremely applicable in business settings, where people want to work with those they know and trust on a deeper level. I have also become more adaptable and culturally aware, learning how to communicate effectively across different perspectives.
Academically, I have rekindled my love and appreciation for the arts. Learning about the history of Florence in my Renaissance Art History course has made me feel so much more connected to this city and the stories that each building, museum, and painting holds. My oil painting class has also brought back a hobby I once enjoyed, and I plan to continue it at home using the new skills my professor taught me. As a finance and accounting major, it is easy to get caught up in Excel sheets and numbers, but these courses have reminded me of the importance of staying well-rounded in my interests.

Personally, I have grown into a much more independent person who is confident navigating life despite uncertainties about the future. Living and traveling abroad has presented unexpected challenges, and learning to handle them without the usual comfort of being “home” has strengthened my problem-solving abilities, patience, and leadership skills (especially in situations that affect an entire group). I have discovered so much about myself, becoming more in tune with who I am, who I am becoming, and who I want to be.
Looking ahead, I plan to carry these experiences and skills with me throughout the rest of my time at Pitt Business and in my future career. Traveling abroad has truly changed my life for the better. Grazie Firenze, you have been the absolute best!
